Today, Marinero has shared live performance footage featuring the standout tracks “Nuestra Victoria”, “Maritime” and “Frisco Ball” from his 2021 acclaimed record, Hella Love via Hardly Art. This footage showcases Marinero’s frontman Jess Slyvester accompanied by a six-piece band and was shot in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park, at The Lodge Room. It comes as a celebration of the one-year anniversary of Hella Love.
In other news, Remezcla in collaboration with Toyota has featured Sylvester as their inaugural artist for a new video series on their site surrounding fashion and is hosted by LA stylist Kyla Marquez. You can watch this interview and series here.
Since the release of Hella Love, Marinero has performed at the Dia De Los Muertos celebration at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles, as well as opening slots for Julieta Venegas, Ed Maverick at Pappy and Harriet's, and most recently for Juan Wauters at The Lodge Room. What people are saying about Marinero:
“It is one of those records that perfectly exemplifies the sentiment of a year in which the light at the end of the tunnel shines a little bit brighter… If the love of 2021 could have a playlist, it would undoubtedly be the songs of Marinero.” Vogue Mexico’s Best Albums of 2021
“In him is the nostalgia in childhood of the era of "Penny Lane", as if he was also squeezed from the same juices as Brian Wilson’s “Good Vibrations”.” - Marvin Magazine
"an album full of sublime sound spaces, where well achieved instrumentations are mixed together with soft vocal arrangements. You know how to measure intensity and then you create a work that will not let your body free until it is finished." [10/10] - Indie Rocks!
“#9 Marinero Hella Love (Hardly Art) - A gorgeous journey through Latin-tinged 70s soft rock. Jess Sylvester is like many of us who have escaped to Los Angeles from San Francisco. He has created a fantastic musical journey through the last couple of decades and really transports you to a different time and place. Oh to be back in San Francisco in a bygone era.” Amoeba’s Top 50 Albums of 2021
"The record is an ode to his hometown of San Francisco that he recently left for Los Angeles and is resplendent in groovy soft-rock sounds." - Brooklyn Vegan
“...heavily inspired by the stylings of grupos romanticas, electronica and a dream pop flair.” [“Nuestra Victoria”] Remezcla
“Whether it’s the psych-funk of ‘Beyond The Rainbow Tunnel’ of 'Frisco Ball''s tears-at-the-disco vibe, the crate-digging eclecticism fused with personal stories is intoxicating and full of charm.” Shindig!
“A work that is as labyrinthine as it is digestible.” [10/10] - Indie Rocks!
"Through his anecdotes, the composer weaves a delicate and lush musical world which finds its source in the orchestral pop and soundtracks from the 60s and 70s, as well as in samba and tropicalia, or in the latin sounds of the Venezualian band Los Terricolas.” FiP
