The Julie Ruin debut new video for “Mr. So and So”

WED, AUG 10, 2016

Mr so and so

Today, PAPER Magazine shared The Julie Ruin’s new music video for “Mr. So and So,” directed by lead singer Kathleen Hanna. The video – which you can watch here or below – expands on the themes of tokenization discussed in the song, a standout from the band’s new release Hit Reset. The Julie Ruin drummer Carmine Covelli plays the eponymous “Mr. So and So,” a self-proclaimed “male feminist” whose actions speak louder than his words.

Hit Reset is currently number one on the CMJ charts, and the band hits the road again tonight for a string of shows up and down the East Coast. See the tour page for a full rundown of dates.

Jenn Champion’s No One EP sees release today on digital and streaming formats. Late last month, we shared the EP’s title track, which was lauded as “a refreshing take on what Champion is known for” (Pitchfork) and “sleek and eerie, like Champion is slowly exhaling her words onto frigid titanium and watching as it fogs over” (Stereogum). Champion is abetted by a diverse collection of remix artists on this EP, including Glitterbang, Crater, USF, SassyBlack, Breakmaster Cylinder and her own Malidont side project.

Jenn Champion celebrates with a record release show tomorrow night in her native Seattle with Posse, DoNormaal, and Nightspace.

Listen below. Additionally, the band was the subject of a new article in the Village Voice today. Read that here

Starting today, you can stream all 13 tracks from The Julie Ruins second full-length album Hit Reset via NPR Music’s First Listen. Writer Ann Powers says of Hit Reset that “[Kathleen Hanna] triumphs at every decibel,” adding, “The sound Hanna has developed with [keyboardist Kenny] Mellman, bassist Kathi Wilcox, guitarist Sarah Landreau and drummer Carmine Cavelli is deceptively loose, invoking girl groups, glam, hardcore punk and the party jams of Hanna’s own protégés, like her labelmates in Tacocat, while always keeping humor and truth-telling at the center.”

Stream Hit Reset at NPR now.

Hit Reset is available on LP, CD, digital, and cassette formats Friday, July 8th. Pre-orders are available here
