Hunx, Hunx, and Hunx! That is what you'll see in a new video from Hunx, featuring not one, not two, but three whole Hunxes and directed by the one and only Hannah Lew of Grass Widow. Rookie mag premiered the video earlier today - watch it here. Hunx will be rejoining his Punx for a national tour in support of his upcoming solo LP, Hairdresser Blues - their US takeover kicks off March 20th in LA and will feature a lineup that includes Erin Emslie, Shannon Shaw (of Shannon & the Clams), and the elusive NOBUNNY. Get lost in a spaz-dance, arcade-riddled time-lapse vortex in a new video for the leadoff single from La Sera's irresistable, accomplished new record, Sees the Light. The clip for "Please Be My Third Eye," directed by LA-based multimedia artist Vice Cooler, premiered on Pitchfork.tv this morning, and can be viewed here. 01.17.12 - Announcing debut EP from Black Marble, Weight Against the Door
We are pleased to announce the first release from NY's Black Marble. Black Marble is one of the latest and greatest additions to the Brooklyn synthwave lexicon, and Weight Against the Door is their debut release, which manages to be bleak, punk, electronic, and uplifting all at once. The 5-song EP is available now digitally, and a limited 12" version is forthcoming February 14 and available for preorder right here, right now. 01.06.12 - La Sera announces new LP, Sees the Light out 3/27
Happy new year to you, website reader. Today brings great news for fans of enchanting, melodically-endowed Golden State pop: La Sera is back with an infectious new record, Sees The Light. Recorded with Rob Barbato in California, Sees The Light follows 2011’s masterful self-titled debut with ten new tracks of peppy break-up pop brimming with defiance and bitter sweetness. This winning album is a testament to the considerable talents of singer-songwriter Katy Goodman (also of Vivian Girls and All Saints Day), and drops on March 27th. Sees The Light is now available for preorder (all LP orders will receive limited opaque yellow vinyl), and you can hear the teaser single "Please Be My Third Eye" right here.

11.30.11 - New solo LP from Hunx, Hairdresser Blues, out 2/28!
We are pleased to announce the first solo record from the one and only Hunx. Hairdresser Blues was written and performed entirely by Hunx (nee Seth Bogart), with the exception of drums, played by Daniel Pitout of Nu Sensae. Recorded in NY by Ivan Julian (Richard Hell & the Voidoids), Hairdresser Blues is full of quick glam and garage pop gems—inpsired, in part, from wee-hours dream-state demo recordings—that touch on everything from nasty break-ups to the Bay City Rollers to the death of Bogart’s friend and contemporary Jay Reatard. 11.22.11 - Seapony "Sailing" 7" out now
Today sees the release of one fine piece of wax, aka Seapony's "Sailing" 7". This little platter features two brand new tracks from the band, both exclusive to this release. 11.15.11 - Gem Club announce overseas tour + Gold Leaves dates coming very soon
Both Gem Club and Gold Leaves are headed across the pond in a mutual attempt to woo audiences worldwide. Gem Club kicks off their outing 11/25 and will include shows in France, the UK, and two appearances at Primavera; the Gold Leaves jaunt will be a string of solo shows with the Fruit Bats starting 11/30 in Sweden. 11.15.11 - Shimmering Stars nominated for CBC's Best New Artist + new vid
The good Canadians at CBC Radio 3 have fine enough taste to include Shimmering Stars as a nominee for Best New Artist for their annual Bucky Awards. 11.15.11 - The Sandwitches vid for "Benny's Memory Palace" premieres on Gorilla vs. Bear
By now you've heard and loved "The Pearl," the latest offering from Bay Area treasures The Sandwitches. Beets madness is upon us! The third full-length from everyone's favorite Queens-based sing-a-long campfire punkers is out now. Let the Poison Out was recorded by Gary Olson of Ladybug Transistor, by which we mean you can fully hear the surrealities Juan is singing about at long last. The packaging features equally endearing and disturbing artwork by the one and only Matt Volz, and you can pick up a copy right on over here - we still have a handful available on opaque purple vinyl, only available via our website and at shows. The band will be touring in support of the LP on the East coast this November - all tour dates are here. THE BEETS!

10.17.11 - New track and an upcoming 7" from Seapony
Seapony have returned, with the first new material since their debut LP, Go With Me, was released earlier this year. "Sailing" pushes the Seapony sound into new territory, featuring xylophone, syncopated hand-claps, and acoustic guitar, all layered over a wash of memorable guitar melodies. The Beets!! 10.14.11 - New 7" from The Sandwitches coming soon
We are pleased to announce that a brand new 7" from San Franciscan trio The Sandwitches will be released November 8 on Hardly Art. The Sandwitches are a band whose members are as prodigiously talented as they are prolific. Songwriters Grace Cooper and Heidi Alexander -- who also contributed to recent releases from Kelley Stoltz, Thee Oh Sees, and The Intelligence -- are cherished participants in the thriving Bay Area underground scene. Their latest sounds are at once equally strange and welcoming. Instantly memorable but hard to describe, "The Pearl" is a testament to the Sandwitches' unbeatable spell-casting abilities. 10.03.11 - Gold Leaves announces US tour with AA Bondy + Euro dates
Seattle's Grant Olsen (of Arthur & Yu) is hitting the road with his Gold Leaves project, just in time for the fall season. Touring behind his recent debut LP, The Ornament, Olsen will support fellow rambler A. A. Bondy throughout November as they trek across the American midwest, south, and eastern seaboard. Following that jaunt, Olsen will perform a few weeks of solo Gold Leaves dates in support of Fruit Bats overseas - all details for both are on yonder tour page.

 

09.28.11 - Gem Club video for "Twins" premieres on NPR
We're pleased to share a new video for "Twins," directed by frequent collaborator BriAnna Olson (whose video for "Breakers" you can revisit here). 09.27.11 - Debut Gem Club LP, Breakers, out today
True story: today sees the release of the first new material from Boston's Gem Club since their self-released Acid & Everything EP in 2010. Breakers is their elegant full-length debut - it is not only out today, but streaming in full over at the Boston Phoenix for one week only. We still have a limited quantity of the LP on white vinyl for sale, and the band will head out on tour starting this Friday, Sept 30, at Glasslands in Brooklyn - all upcoming tour dates are here.

The Jacuzzi Boys have shared a new video for "Automatic Jail," the second single from their sophomore LP, Glazin'. 09.13.11 - Debut Shimmering Stars LP + Carissa's Wierd 7" out now
Now available until the end of the internet: Violent Hearts, the debut full-length from Vancouver dream pop outfit Shimmering Stars, and a brand new 7" from NW stalwarts Carissa's Wierd that contains their first new material in over 7 years. Not bad. Shimmering Stars play a release show in Vancouver this Friday the 16th at the Waldorf with Seapony, and Carissa's Wierd will play two reunion shows: one at Neumos on Saturday 9/24, and another just added at NYU on Monday 10/10. That's right! "Twins" is the haunting second mp3 from the debut Gem Club LP, Breakers. The band has also shared a video for the title track, an atmospheric piece filmed in Iceland by Brianna Olson. Following the release of the Acid and Everything EP in 2010 (now conveniently available in yonder shop page), Gem Club will release their first full-length LP, Breakers, on September 27. 08.10.11 - Seapony share Yours Truly vid plus CA tour dates
Seapony has shared a new, live performance of With You," courtesy of Yours Truly. Watch as the band takes over a warehouse space with their summery guitar riffs, and their former drum machine morphs into a human (new member John Bryan). The band has also announced limited West coast tour dates this fall, including stops in San Diego and LA, in addition to multiple festival dates in Seattle.

 

08.04.11 - Two new songs and a Seattle show from Carissa's Wierd
Hardly Art is proud to share the first new material from Carissa's Wierd in over seven years. The seminal northwest group - whose members went on to form Band of Horses and Grand Archives, and spawned the solo projects of Jenn Ghetto (S) and Sera Cahoone - has recorded two new tracks, which will be released on a 7" and digitally on September 13. Stream the b-side, "Meredith & Iris," here. Carissa's Wierd will play a show at Neumos in Seattle on September 24 in support of the 7" (tickets on sale Friday), with plans to book a future show in New York. It is too soon to say whether or not Carissa's Wierd is "back," but for the time being, we can certainly say that they are here.

 

08.03.11 - New vids and an East coast tour from Hunx and His Punx
Hunx and His Punx have shared a new video for "Lovers Lane," directed by Hannah Lew of Grass Widow, which premiered earlier today on MTV Hive. Watch as a wandering Hunx is taken in by doppelgangers and sent to the open road, to prom, and to the elusive Lovers Lane. The band has also announced an East coast tour for September, including dates with K-Holes, the Coathangers, and Natural Child - check 'em out here. PLUS! If you've ever wondered what exactly it would be like to be on the road with a band like Hunx and His Punx, the group also recently shared a tour documentary from their spring jaunt with Shannon and the Clams - the "Too Young to Sleep Talk" tour doc was directed by Daniel Pitout and is viewable right here.

 

08.02.11 - Welcoming Xray Eyeballs plus new 7" plus tour
We at HQ are pleased to announce the first new material from Xray Eyeballs following the release of their debut LP, Not Nothing, earlier this year on Kanine Records. "Sundae" is a chugging, relentless number that wastes no time, carried all the while by O.J. San Felipe's increasinly anthemic vocals, while b-side "Deja Vu" (produced by Chris Coady) showcases a dancefloor-ready version of the band, filtered through a snare beat and synth line combo that insistently wanders through each stereo channel. Listen to the A-side, "Sundae," here. Both tracks are brand new and exclusive to this 7". A first pressing of 500 on translucent blue vinyl will be released on August 30, followed by a brief East coast tour in September.

 

07.27.11 - The Moondoggies share Dylan cover, announce fall tour
The Moondoggies have not slowed down since the release of their critically acclaimed album, Tidelands, in late 2010. The band has been performing countless radio sessions, including KEXP & Sirius, and running the festival circuit (with a stop at Sasquatch earlier this year). Next, they'll be hopping on The Dave Matthews Band Caravan this August, and the following month the band will hit Austin to play the celebrated Austin City Limits festival. Following a debut LP (DEATHFACE) on Danish label Skrot Up, Hardly Art will release the first new material from Seattle-based Grave Babies this fall. Two brand new, blown-out goth pop tracks stamped with the Grave Babies' signature cascading melodies will be showcased to the masses via a 7" to be released on August 16. Gem Club is mainly the project of Christopher Barnes and frequent collaborator Kristen Drymala. Both live presently in Somerville, MA, where they craft captivating, delicate songs with their own particular brand of stripped-down space and elegance. Recorded and co-produced by Jason Quever (Papercuts), The Ornament is equally informed by subtle R&B touches and 60's Brit-pop production, with precise instrumental touches ranging from timpani to organ and cello. Thao Ngyuen (Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Thao & Mirah), Amy Blaschke, and members of The Moondoggies all contribute backing vocals. 04.20.11 - "Blue Star" premiere + preorder for Seapony
"Blue Star" is the first new Seapony material since their "Dreaming" single was released last fall, and Gorilla vs. Bear has a few words on it right here. Two brand new releases are out today - Too Young To Be In Love by Hunx and His Punx, and the "Slave" / "Honey" 7" from Circle Pit. The Hunx LP can only be found on opaque pink vinyl either at our fine web store or at shows while they last - grab yours here. Hunx and His Punx kick off their national tour this Saturday, 4/2 at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco - all upcoming dates with Shannon & the Clams!

 

03.25.11 - WE SIGNED CIRCLE PIT, new 7" ahoy
Following two 7" releases and a debut LP on Siltbreeze last year, we are proud to announce a brand new 7" from Circle Pit for Hardly Art. These Australian noise-makers have stepped back from their raucous sludge and instead crafted two moody, synthed-out slow-burners for this double A-side. 03.15.11 - Seapony "Dreaming" digital single out now
Rejoice! After their debut 7" on Double Denim went quickly OOP last fall, Seapony fans far and wide have been waiting for this fateful day.. you can now find "Dreaming" as a digital single over on yonder iTunes with an exclusive non-LP track. The band's debut LP, Go With Me is out May 31.

 

03.14.11 - SXSW IS NOW!
Hardly Art has 7 bands making the trek to Austin this year, in the form of: Fergus & Geronimo, Unnatural Helpers, La Sera, The Moondoggies, Hunx and His Punx, Dizzy Eyes, and Colleen Green! We'll be throwing a split day show with Art Fag, an official showcase with Sub Pop, and a pizza party at End of an Ear all this week. 03.03.11 - Welcoming Seapony and Jacuzzi Boys to Hardly Art!
The news is out and it is totally true! Hardly Art is pleased to welcome both Seapony and the Jacuzzi Boys to the fold. We will release a digital version of the OOP "Dreaming" single from Seapony on 3/15, and their debut full-length, Go With Me, will be released on 5/31. Snag an mp3 of "Dreaming" right here to celebrate. Jacuzzi Boys are headed into the studio this month to record the follow-up LP to 2009's No Seasons, which we plan to release later this year - stay tuned for more LP details, and check out the band on tour in the meantime! In further news, 2011 is going to be ruling. Ruling!

02.10.11 - Announcing Colleen Green + Dizzy Eyes + 7"s + Stuff
Continuing on in the stream of news from HQ, we are pleased to announce new releases from Colleen Green and Dizzy Eyes! Colleen Green is a roving songwriting phenomenon, whose specialty is in crafting catchy, fuzzy earworm tunes that range from 80s pop goulash to psychedelic drone. We'll be releasing her debut Hardly Art 7" - "Green One" +3 - on March 1! Green will also be hitting the road in March - check those details here. Dizzy Eyes, meanwhile, hail from Vancouver, BC, and managed to write a taut set of guitar pop anthems in the eight months of the band's existence. The band has since been put on hold due to the deportation of one member, but no matter! Dizzy Eyes will reform in time to blow minds at SXSW. Long live Dizzy Eyes. Their 7" release - "Let's Break Up the Band" +2 - will also be released March 1. Check out a track from each on their respective artist pages!

The fine folks of Sasquatch Fest have not only booked the Moondoggies to perform, but they have immortalized them forever by coupling the tune "I Want You to Know" with a yeti in their lineup announce vid. We thought something sounded familiar in there.

Wait, what! It is 2011, and everything is coming up La Sera. We will have the pleasure of releasing a second 7" from La Sera on 1/18, which will include "Devils Hearts Grow Gold" - a cut from the upcoming full-length - as well as an exclusive b-side, in the form of a cover of "Dedicated to the One I Love." We've made an mp3 of "Devils Hearts Grow Gold" available for your listening pleasure right here! 01.04.11 - Moondoggies on tour + hear a new song
Oh hey, happy new year! In case you missed it, it is now 2011. Welcome to the future. We are still ringing in the new year over at HQ, which partially involves confetti shots (don't ask), but mostly involves the Moondoggies heading out on tour! They will be driving all around the great US of A starting this month, mostly with Quiet Life. Check all those dates right here. To further celebrate, we are sharing another track from their newest LP, Tidelands, which we released late last year - that track is called "What Took So Long" (which you may have previously heard on NPR?) and you can listen and download and rejoice and dance around with it right on over here.
